Special Student Applications

Special students are those who are allowed to take some courses, although they are not enrolled in one of the programs in the university.
No diplomas or titles are given to special students. However, they can get official transcripts at the end of each semester. If they are accepted as a graduate student to METU later, the grades which are approved by the concerned administrative committee can be added to their grade point average.
EADLINE FOR APPLICATION AND REGISTRATION: March 2, 2007

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

  1. Completed application form with one passport-size photograph. Download Form.
  2. Original copy of transcripts. If transcripts are not in English, a notarized or attested translation should be provided.
  3. Attested or notarized copies of graduation/student certificate. Custom essay
  4. Passports should be shown to the officials during registration.
  5. Photocopies of the pages that include identification information and “Student Visa” should also be submitted.
    Students who live in Turkey should give the photocopies of the first seven pages of Student Residence Permit (instead of Student Visa).
  6. Receipt of the course fee ($ 150 per credit).
  7. Reciept of the application fee ($ 60).

Approval of the instructor and Department Chair should be taken on the application form. This approved form and other required documents should be submitted to Registrar’s Office/Application Unit until the deadline. After this process is completed special students will have been registered. They will not make interactive registration. Application fees and fees per credit

APPLICATION FEE

  • Turkish nationals from METU: 60YTL
  • Turkish nationals fromother universities: 90 YTL
  • International students: $ 60

FEES PER CREDIT

  • Turkish nationals:140 YTL
  • International students: $ 150

Special student applications are valid for only one semester. For next semesters, the students should make application again. However students who apply without any interval do not pay any application fee.
If the taken course is a non-credit course then the payment will be made as if the course is a two-credit course.

After registration, in case of inappropriate number of students, the course will be closed. In this case, students can take their application and course fees in the first four weeks of the semester. For reimbursement, students have to submit their receipts.

Students who Want to Take Courses As Special Student From Evening Programs:

Students who want to take courses from evening programs as a special students should firstly visit Office of Student Accounts. They will act on a letter given by the office. They will make their payment to the banks. They will make their registration, and at the end they will give one copy of the receipt to the program advisor in the Registrar’s Office.

New Graduate Student Registration

REGISTRATION OF STUDENTS NEWLY ACCEPTED TO GRADUATE PROGRAMS

IMPORTANT DATES

  • February 12-13: Document submitting (please examine registration dates chart for graduate programs) (International students can register until March 02, 2007)
  • February 13: Last day to pay tuition fees
  • February 14-16: Interactive registration and advisor approvals
  • February 14-23: Last day to pay tuition fees with fine
  • February 26- March 2: Add-drop, late registration and advisor approvals

REGISTRATION PLACE

Registrations of international students are made in the International Students’ Office, next the Solmaz Izdemir Hall in the library.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR REGISTRATION

Even if the documents below have been given during the application, they will be given again in order to be able to continue registrations in a systematic way. Take a look at Water and Hydrology Research Articles website.

  • Original of the Bachelor’s/Master’s Diploma (METU graduates may bring attested photocopies of their diplomas)
  • Original of the Transcript (Not required for METU graduates)
  • Letter of Acceptance (Provided by the Graduate School)
  • Original of the GRE/ GMAT/ LES Result Card
  • Original of the Result of English Proficiency Examination
  • TOEF (Minimum scores: TOEFL: 213, IELTS: 6.5 (for each component), METU English Proficiency Examination: 64.5
  • Passport and copy
  • Students who come from abroad should take the “Student Visa” from the Turkish Embassy in their country.

New Transfer Student Registration

IMPORTANT DATES

  • February 13-Period to pay tuition fee without fine (for only transferring students)
  • February 14-23-Period to pay tuition fee with fine
  • February 26, March 2-Course registration

PROCEDURE

  1. Tuition fee receipt will be delivered to Registrar’s Office/Application unit.
  2. Students will learn their academic advisor from the department chair.
  3. Students will register online from any PC room.
  4. Students will take advisor approval to complete registration process.

MAXIMUM PERIOD

For the students who transferred from METU or other universities, their previous semesters will be counted for determining maximum period of study.

How to Register

STUDENTS OF BASIC ENGLISH DEPARTMENT:

Students who have the right to continue the Basic English Department will only pay tuition fee and not make interactive registration.

STUDENTS WHO WILL REGISTER TO THEIR PROGRAM FOR THE FIRST TIME:

Those students should learn their adviser’s name from the Department Chairperson and then from their adviser they should learn the courses they must take. After this, they should make interactive registration.
